Problems with new CDRW

Alright here's the deal: I have a 56x CD-ROM installed as primary master, and a Lite-On CDRW as my primary slave. The hookups are all right, because when the computer turns on it reads both of the drives correctly. However, I get an error message: "Primary IDE channel no 80 conductor cable". I am then unable to access either of the drives from My Computer in Windows.

I have a 700 Duron Abit KT7-RAID Geforce 2 Pro setup. I also think I may have a bad driver, because in my Device Manager there is no driver for my PCI Mass Storage Controller. Is that the problem? And if so, where can I get that driver? I haven't been able to find a driver for a PCI Mass Storage Controller on the internet. Help would be greatly appreciated 😱

Sounds like you have an ATA-66 or faster drive, but it's using an ATA-33 cable. The newer IDE drives need an 80-wire cable, whereas older ones only used 40 conductors; both have only 40 pins though.
Which hard drive connectors are your hard drive(s) and CD drives connected to?

The "PCI Mass Storage Controller" is the RAID controller chip on the motherboard. It's probably a Highpoint chip. If you do not have any devices connected to the RAID controller's IDE connectors, you can probably just disable it in the BIOS.

Oh, thats probably right. My HDD is only ATA-33, and when I got the CDRW I switched the cords for the CDRW and the HDD so that they would reach. Guess I'll have to switch them back. Thanks.
