i have an aiw 8500dv. i upgraded to the new mmc 8.1 sans dvd decoder. i never used it before with mmc 7 (windvd for that) so its no biggie. anyway, i record tv using the DVD setting (mpeg2). i then use ulead videostudio6 to edit out commercials. its worked like a charm until i went to the cat 3.2 and mmc 8.1. now, it recorded a little choppy but i figured out videosoap is enabled by default so i disabled it. now its smoother but i still have issues in videostudio6. while moving around in the video, the video picture will often get all blocky and if im stepping though the frames i sometimes find black frames. this causes crashing quite often. after finally getting a vid editied, i rendered it to a dvd (mpeg2) file. it crashed with the videosoap video, the non soaped one completed but the video was all wacky. it would repeat frames so it was a bunch of "double-takes" thoughout. the audio seemed ok.

what is up with that? i went back and played with a previously recorded mpg2 clip and didnt have any of that blocky stuff. did ati make their mpeg2 encoder in this new version non-standard in someway or what?

also, since updating, videostudio6 crashes on the capture screen. i dont capture in vs6, but when u create a new project, it takes you right to the capture screen first thing. crash! doh!

am i the only one having this issue? im gonna try and go back the mmc 7 and hope its the mmc and not the 3.2 drivers.

for reference my "tivo" system is a p4 2.1 (133fsb), gigabyte 8irxp, 512mb ddr corsair ram (266mhz), live, aiw8500, WD expert 27.3gig (OS and App), WD 80gig 8mb cache (capture/storage), Maxtor 60gig (storage) win2k sp3.
