Problems with new 8KHA+ install

Just installed an 8KHA+ with 1800+AMD in an Antec 1035B case (350W). I was previously running Win2000 Pro (NTFS file system enabled) on my old mobo/chip setup off of one HD and also had another HD slaved but without NTFS enabled. I fired up the new board and the probems began. When trying to boot off of the master drive, it would briefly recognize Win2000 but then would fail to a blue screen of death with an error message saying it couldn't recognize the boot device. The funny thing is that the board does recognize both hard drives with correct model numbers. I figured I'd try to boot from the Win2000 CD but that failed because my old system was a Dell and the install disk is proprietary to them. It comes up and says that this disc is only valid for Dell systems.

Sooooo....I decide to try a copy of Win98...I boot off of that and it works...can't install to the master HD because it says it cannot read the file system and must FORMAT the drive. I didn't do that as I can't afford to lose all that data. Unfortueately I didn't ghost the drive before starting this whole process. I ended up installing Win98 to the slave drive and that's what I'm running on now. The BIG PROBLEM is that Win98 sees the primary drive however it thinks it's only an 8GIG drive and it sees NO FILES on there. I'm guessing that this is due to the fact that Win98 can't recognize NTFS....correct???

What would you recommend? Trying to install a non-DELL copy of Win2000 on the slave drive then hoping it will recognize everything on the master at that time? If it works I could then install Win2000 on the master again and hopefully everything will work.

ANY IDEAS? THANKS!

First, you should really be doing a clean install of your OS if going to a new mobo and new cpu, especially when you have changed platforms sooo dramatically. What do u have on the computers that you need? NEVER do an install without backing up very sensitive data that you might need. You can try installin fresh win2k on drive and see if you can get anything from the other drive, but your best bet is to just wipe everything out and start from scratch and chalk it up to lessen learned. ALWAYS try and do fresh install of OS when changing platforms, ESPECIALLY WIN2k
