Problems with MySpace...

Yes, having network issues whenever somone (who will remain anonymous) gets onto MySpace. My latency when processing important entertainment programs, mainly all my online games, shoots through the roof whenever she logs onto Myspace. We are running on a Netgear WGT624 Router, various NIC cards in our various systems 3 wireless and one hardwired. Just hoping for any tips some more experienced network gurus could toss my way. Also if you need any other info before you can help just let me know and I'll do my best, I am in no way hip to the networking crowd so talk slowly and use small words I'll do my best to understand. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

who is wireless and who is wired? if your girl is on wireless, get her to hardwire in and try myspace while your gaming. if the problem persists, get her to try it on another pc.

it's unlikely myspace is directly causing the issues...most likely overloaded content (audio / video / pictures) on the pages she is viewing.

what encryption are you using with wireless? is your routers firmware up to date?

If your router has a QoS tab or page, put port 80 to the lowest priority and the ports that you use for your games to the highest. That might help your gaming.

Sorry for the long delay in replying thank you so much for your help, currently we have no encryption, however our firmware is up to date. What would be a good encryption for our little home network? Also would there be a more generic name for QoS or what do you mean by that? I'm in the router trying to find what you are talking about I would really like to try this. Thanks again you two.

That is strange.
About a year ago, when I lived somewhere else, something similar would happen to me. I was on a network with about 10 other people, whenever I went to myspace.com, the network would complete stop functioning for about 5minutes. Never did figure out why.

QoS = Quality of Service.

Yeah, but I do not think this router does.
