Problems with my new CD-RW drive

Yesterday I went to Frye's to pickup a new CD-RW drive, and ended up with an Artec 52x drive. I took the cheap route with this, as I was looking for a drive with a black bezel and this one only cost $40. I think I got what I paid for though, because I've had a lot of trouble with it. I tried to burn about 10 different cd's yesterday, using both Fuji and Memorex discs. It only actually worked one time, and every other time I just got the message that said "Please insert a blank disc." Even though I repeatedly was putting new blank discs in the drive, it would not recognize them. Is this just a problem with the drive or what?

If so, could somebody reccomend a drive that is compatible with most brands of Cd-r's? Please remember, I'm looking for a drive with a black bezel if possible.

LG makes one with a black bezel... they cost $40 CANADIAN... so they should be really cheap in the US.
