Problems with my new 6800 GS

Ok so I installed speedfan after putting together my new system and there is 3 different temperatures:

Temp 1 and Temp 2 are fine at about 25 C each but Temp 3 is at 69C idle. Now can anybody tell me what this temperature is for? I only posted in the vid card forum because I think thats the problem. But the odd thing is that it says my vid card is at 38 C in the nvidia options.

Btw its a sparkle 6800 GS and my system is:

A64 3200+
1 gig
200 gig HD

Also I noticed that windows is booting MUCH slower and some applications are slower aswell and also all of a sudden my monitor turned dark and then I realised the brightness was on 0 when nobody was tampering with it. Its really odd.

Also I only reinstalled windows but did not reformat, maybe this could be cauing the problems but it hardly explains the hard temperature and the sudden brightness loss.

Please help!

Another odd thing is that every time I click on the small nvidia icon on the right hand bottom side of the screen the monitor suddenly goes black and then goes back to desktop in about a second. This happens EVERY TIME and I don't think its normal.

I dont have a 6800gs, but I do use speedfan, and I dont think it measures your gpu temps. I use separate programs for that, like Ati Tool or ATT.

Anyways I looked a bit around the case when it was running and noticed that my 6800 GS is directly above the mobo heatsink because of its sheer size and it was pretty much touching it. I then gave the mobo heatsink a small touch and it was slightly hot but it did not feel like 70C, maybe about 55ish. So I got the idea that the card may be passing some of its heat to the mobo heatsink because its so close and it may be techincally using it as a second heatsink and that could explain why my 6800 GS only idles at 38 C on a stock cooler.

Also, just to know, could 70 C be potentially damaging to the mobo since most video cards would be fine with that.

Oh and also my voltages flunctuate like crazy in some situations.

In the speed fan program, where it said '-12V- it may go up to -3V or so, and then back to -6V or so.

The +12V is about normal but still flunctuates between 9 and 12.

The power supply is an Icute 450 W if it matters.

Speedfan does not accuratly report my voltages by any means. Google Systool, i use that to monitor all my voltages and temperatures.

I'm sure you do have a hotspot if they are that close, but I doubt it would cause much fuss as long as the case is cooled properly. Alot of heat build up that isn't being flushed out over time could wear down your components like hard drives and capacitors. As long as you got some fans in there you should be okay. The only way to see if you're stable is to game on it. :)

As for your PSU - stuff like speed fan are notoriously unreliable. Try looking in your BIOS for something like "HW monitor" or "PC Health" it MAY give a better reading. I have never heard of Icute but it sounds like a fire waiting to happen. Obscure PSU manufacturers are known to be low quality and have weak +12V rails.

it has a 20A +12V rail if it matters.

And icute is known for making lots of cases here in New Zealand.
