Ok I am ready to throw in the towel here. I have An ABIT KA7 mobo. an my MX300 just will not work in 2k. Its did work at first boot into 2k then suddenly stopped. Im using the drivers that were supposed to be for 2k. ( WDM5_10_2500_49) I also have the latest updates for VIA for my Mobo+BIOS+2k Servise pack.

I have tryed everything uninstalling re installing manually looking for the drivers in 2k system32. If you can offer any help please.

ok assuming I uninstalled the card did the re install and looked for the windows 2k drivers where in 2k should I look? in the .ini's ? in the drivers system32?

thank so much Im on ICQ and AIM Lotust25 and 9485920

PS im running a dual boot and the MX300 work fine in 98. I have been told by 3 other people that there MX300 works in 2k.

I too had a Diamond MX300, Abit KA7 mobo, and Win2k. I couldn't get it to work period. Some people have, and I tried using the same drivers etc, but it still wouldn't work. I gave up and bought a Sound Blaster Live. Which drivers are you using? The WDM drivers? I think that for most people, those seem to work best. Good luck.

edit: When it asks you for the driver location, I think you're supposed to point it to the Windows directory.

If you do end up buying a new sound card, don't do what I did first. I didn't want to spend a lot of money, so I went and bought a Guillemot Maxisound MUSE for 25 bucks. The rear channels won't play in Win2k. It doesn't say that on the box mind you. It says that Win2k supports. Which it does, just not the rear channels. 🙂 I emailed and they told me that the rear channels won't work. Not that they are working on fixing the problem, just that the problem exists so too bad. I returned and got a Soundblaster Live. Which also has some problems in Win2k, but atleast all the channels play.

thanks again spoon I would consider a soundblaster if I could evan get 2k to shutdown. 🙁 Awwwww well. im gonna reformat my D: drive now, Enough is enough. its not stable on my system

<there are known problems with your mobo's chipset and the mx300..it's not w2k.>

dont mean to be a smart @ss but it work PERFECT in 98. in my system

Yeah, I had problems with that card running on a 440BX chipset. The win2k drivers just weren't very mature when aureal kicked it.

ok and? All I said is that there are "known issuses with the MX300 (vortex2 chipset) and kt-133 mobos's.

Maybe your setup is running into one of those issues.
Sorry i don't have the documentation on the issues handy
