Problems with my laptop

I have a Lenovo T61 on Vista 32 Ultimate with 9-cell battery (if that matters.) A week ago, I tried to use it after not having used it at all for a few months. As you can imagine, the battery showed empty even though it was fully charged before I stopped using it. Anyway, I noticed a problem as, when I tried to go into Control Panel to uninstall a program, the system stalled for over 5 minutes before I finally Ctrl-Alt-Del to cancel the process. When I try to delete something, it also takes forever (10+ minutes) and doesn't always work. Yesterday, it took 15 minutes to shutdown. This is now a constant problem every time I turn it on. Did I damage something hardware-wise by not using it so long or is Vista just corrupted and in need of a reinstall?

On a separate note, would I be able to use my Vista dvd that I use for my desktop with the OEM key for the laptop or do I have to use the Lenovo Recovery Disks?

Any help is appreciated!

I'm thinking that since you didn't use your laptop for so long, it's trying to install updates and/or doing some house cleaning. I would log in and leave it alone for several hours. Check the air vent openings for obstructions. It could be that your laptop is overheating and the cpu reduced speed. I'm not too sure about the Vista OEM key part; I would give it a try if your desktop has the same version(home basic, home premium, etc...) as the laptop.
