Problems With My Cendyne 4x/4x/32x CD-RW

Hey guys,
Every time I try to burn something, my CD-R writes most of the CD then it stops writing and gives me an error message that says something about an illegal operation (not to be confused with the Windows illegal operation, my error is caused by the CD-R program). This has happened in both Adaptec CD-Deluxe 5.0 and CD-RWin 2.8. If anyone can shed some light on this situation I would be grateful.

Comp Specs:
Celeron 450A
Abit BH6

Cendyne 4x/4x/32x CD-RW
Maxtor ATA66 20GB
Radeon DDR 64MB

Update: OK...I just made a copy of my Windows98 SE CD using CD Clone. Now, the last 5 or 6 times I failed burning a CD they were all trying to make audio CDs...perhaps this only happens with audio CDs? I will try burning a data CD with Nero later tonite and post my results here. Please help if you have any info about problems with burning audio CDs!

What I am suggesting is not an expert opinion. Just until some expert comes up with real solutions.

I had a CD-RW problem myself and I searched this forum and found/received the following general suggestions;

1) Disable DMA
2) Put hard disk as IDE 0 primary and CD-RW as IDE 1 primary.
3) Make sure your CD is supported by software. In my case, it was not fully supported by the bundled software. I downloaded Nero and it worked well.
4) Try different medium or brand.
5) Some softwares do not like co-existence of another CD writing program.

Things like these.

Make sure that your Adaptec program is updated.

I've got that drive on a CUSL2 and it works fine. How old is the OS installation?

Ok...I have tried pretty much every type of burning program now. And basically they burn some or most of the CD, and then it just says it had an unexpected error or unexpected stoppage of burning. The OS installation is fairly recent, like 2 months or so...and it's Win98 SE. I have tried most, if not all, of the things buildingacomputer said to do...and it still doesn't work. *sigh* maybe this just isn't a good CD-R. =(

Don't give up....although I'm at a loss...as a note, every time I've had a CDRW problem it has NEVER been the drive....Anyother ideas?

Are we just not burning Audio now?

A while ago someone posted a link to a siye that trouble shooted these problems. I though I saved it but can't find it...

Well...I would really like to burn audio CDs. Those are what I make the most, I rarely ever make data CDs...so I'm really bummed that this damn thing isn't working.
