Problems With My Brightness Settings

I have a GeForce4 TI4200 as my video card and a NEC LCD1700NX-BK 17in LCD Monitor...In some games, for example Half-Life, the screen is too dark, even though my gamma settings in the game are set at maximum and my monitor is on 100% brightness. I never had this problem with a CRT monitor, so I am thinking it may be something to do with this LCD monitor I am using. If anyone can help me it would be much appreciated.
 
Sometimes, there will be tools to change your brightness, contrast, etc. in the display properties (r-click desktop > Properties > Settings tab > Advanced button > ...). If that doesn't do it for you, try calling tech support. You might have to RMA the monitor or something.
