Problems with Multiformat TDK 8x burner

I have a problem with my brand new TDK 840G burner. I have burned over 25 disks successfully with this burner without a problem. Now when I insert a disk (even a DVD movie from the store) the orange light just blinks and never acknowledges there is a disk in the drive. I am also not able to read any kind of cd or burn or read anything from this drive. I have removed and even replaced the IDE cable and tried a different IDE controller on the motherboard without success. I hooked up my Yamaha 24x cd burner to the same IDE cable/slot and it worked just fine and could read any kind of cd media I threw at it. Is there anything else I can do or do I have a dead drive that needs to be returned?

Any help will be appreciated.
