Well, yesterday MSN Messenger told me there was a newer version and as I like to keep up to date, I installed it. Big mistake, it looks awful and I hate it.

Uninstalled it via Vista64's uninstall programs and attempted to install an older version. I had no success with this as the new installer program launched and it installed the new version again.

However, I am told that despite the fact that the new messenger is installed, I cannot find the uninstaller for it and until I uninstall it, I cannot consider installing a previous version.

I would appreciate some feedback on this issue as although it may seem minor, the new MSN is gareishly ugly, difficult to read and breaks one of my old favourite plugins.

I feel you man :( Picture sending in the new MSN is so broken it's not funny... In the old one all you had to do to send a screenshot was Print Screen->Ctrl+V into the chat window. Now some shit starts, you have to save the screen capture first on your computer and only then you iwll be able to send it as a regular picture. Also, when you save an incoming picture, you have to select where and give the name (WITH the extension LOL!)... each time it has to be a new name as otherwise it will replace some other file you received. It's so inconvienient... I wish there was a way to go back to the old way you send screen captures :( Double click in the chat window for the incoming file, receive it and double click again to watch it. And each had a unique name (due to the temporary nature of the sender's file).

Thing is, with other files it works the old fast and convienient way. It's just the pictures that take so much longer :( Wish I could disable it.

And I'm afraid I don't knwo how to help you. Tried going back but it's a no-go. I end up with the new version again. Why oh why did I install the new one... :(

Are you guys talking about Live messenger? Sure it looks terrible just as do many of Microsoft's programs but thankfully, you can get rid of most the crap. Go into layout and get rid of the groups, tab bar, what's new. Make all the contact list icons small, use the favorite group (it is pretty cool way to sort) and finally, get rid of the today screen that pops up when you sign in.

Part Solution:

Final Uninstaller - Removed Windows Live Messenger without a hitch.

Still to solve:

Finding a working previous version of Live Messenger.

I also had problems wit hthe new version of Live Messenger. It installed just fine, but I couldn't get the darn thing to connect. It would do its nifty searching thing and then just click back to the login choice with username/password. I had no such trouble with the previous version...

Do a search on the net for Messenger live 8.5 Standalone. That should get you to where you want to go, or at least pointed in the correct direction. While it may say that this is ver14, its really only 9. Microsoft is confusing with its version numbering.

Hope this helps soimewhat...
