This is quite awhile ago now, but last fall I had a most unpleasant experience helping a friend put together his first PC. The essential components: MSI Neo2-FIS2R mobo, 2x 256Mb Kingston PC3200 RAM, ATI Radeon 9600Pro.
After much frustration with BIOS issues, we got the system up and running, but he continued to get frequent BSODs (with memory dump information) and reboots. I ran memTest86 and got numerous errors, so I relaxed the memory timings and eventually got memTest to run for 24 hours with 0 errors.
But as soon as he got it back it started again - same problems. Eventually he found that if he configured his two RAM sticks to run in single-channel mode, the system was 100% stable. But obviously he would like to run in dual-channel mode.
Does anyone have any suggestions? I am confused that memTest has no issues, but such problems arise in real use. Any help would be appreciated, I'd like to help him out and get his system running properly.
