Problems with MSI K7T Pro 2A Mobo!

Based on Via KT133 chipset.

At start up doesnot recognize RAM (LED's on the mobo indicates RAM failure). Have tried with various RAM sticks and still does not work.

Does this mobo require a particular type of RAM?

this problem started out of nowhere after the board had been working for awhile, right? lots of people have had this problem including myself. the problem isn't your ram, it's your motherboard. i've had two of these die on me, where the second was an RMA of the first. i've also read lots of other people with similar problems on these forums and MSI's own forums. you can either RMA the board or forget about this board and get a new one. if you RMA it, the problem could come back.

The duron that would work with KT133 chipset would also work with KT266A mobo?

Or what other Mobo /chip set would u guys suggest? looking for stability and quality over performance and OCing options

EDIT: Also cost is a prime consideration plus upgradablility to new T'bred processors and 512 RAM

That MSI model was my first, and last MSI product. Quick out the door with the new technology but "Built fast but not to last"

Guys i dont think i want another MSI product right now! 🙂 Some other manufacturers would be nice

Later MSI motherboards have been stable and reliable, its just that MSI ran into a bunch of problems with that series (K7T-pro/pro2/pro2A). Later revisions, such as the K7T Turbo, have been relatively trouble-free.

Havn't had a problem with the my MSI K7T Pro2-A...

When did you get the board? I think MSI has a 2 year warranty with their products (at least where I come from)..I know a friend who's Pro2-A stopped working.....he RMA'd it, and they didn't have any Pro2-A's to give him, so they gave him a K7T Turbo instead... needless to say, he was quite pleased 😉

Cheers

bought the board off someone on the FS/FT forums, and cant really go back to them as the board was working fine for a while so really not the sellers concern. and cant RMA as dont have the receipt. 🙁

plop down $50 for an ecs k75sa board. should be able to use those sdram sticks you have, and let you upgrade to T-bred laters.

MSI has had lots of issues with the K7T series boards. My friend had one that worked for about 1.5 yeras, and just decided to quit. I RMA'ed it, and got another board. You can either RMA it, and take your chance on another K7T series board, and like what DBandit said, shell out $52 and get the ECS K75SA at newegg.com.

my turbo just died yesterday as well after almost a year of flawless operation. replaced it with a refurb a7v133 that i picked up. upon examination of the board i found that a small undersized voltage regulater located along the rear edge of the board behind the pci sockets had most definately burned up. My local dealer has said that is no problem that he is sure he can get me a warranty replacement for it. Really like the way this ASUS runs so far so i will probably be selling the replacement when it comes. wasn't that sudden death problem that the pro 2/turbo were boards having related to bad voltage regulaters. seems i read that it was.
