Problems with mp3 playback after scandisk and defrag (need help)

I use a Maxtor 40 gig 7200rpm harddrive for my mp3z. It's about 1 1/2 years old. Well since all I ever use it for is mp3z, I never really defragged it (yeah, stupid me).

So a few weeks ago when my server would startup win 2k the message would come up that "scandisk needs to check your disk for consistencies" Well I let it run and it ended up replacing a crap load of bad/lost clusters that if found. After it booted into win 2k I ran scandisk again. Defragged it. And ran HD Valet.

However, now whenever I am playing alot of my mp3z with winamp a message will come up on a certain song that says
" No MPEG Audio Header Found" and it won't play the file. When I go to file info in winamp there is no data under layer, sample rate, bitrate, length, etc. And it won't let me enter it.

So this is my question. Did scandisk replace the bad clusters and in the process fuk up some of my mp3z?

Now I have all my mp3z backed up on CD-R so it is not a problem reinstalling them to the drive but it is going to take a while to format the drive and then replace almost 28 gigs of mp3z by method of cd-r.

So I was just wondering if any of you have ever had this problem or have an idea on how to fix it without do the above?

Sorry this was such a long read. Didn't want to leave any info out.

im just wondering if the drive got so badly defragmented and possibly the file system got corrupted, since u say you get a "mpeg header not found" when you try to play ur mp3's.. I hope the drive is ok, yes i think you should just delete that partition, format and reinstall your OS and files, you can install a minimum number of mp3's and see how well the drive performs then, and from now on DEFRAG!.... heh well hope this helps dude, and good luck....
