Problems with monitor display. Help!

Sometimes my monitor will show blue or green vertical dots across a video playback screen or in a game.
Also, my mouse pointer will constantly have a small black line beside it. Need to know whats happening. Using ATI Xpert 200 Pro, Asus A7V133 MB.

It could be a couple of things. First, make sure the cable is firmly connected to the vid card and there are no signs of damage to the cable like pinches, gouges or breaks. If the cord is kinked or pinched it could cause visual problems. Check your drivers. Both the vid card and monitor. Certain monitors don't work properly at different refresh rates. Tinker around with the settings in the display properties. Another thing you could try is turning back some of the accelerator functions in the Advanced Display Properties applet. Right Click My Computer | select Properties | click the Performance tab | and in the Advanced Setting box, click the Graphics button. Move the slider to the left one position at time and see if that helps. This may not be the solution, but it's a start.
