problems with microsoft iintellimouse optical.

i've been fighting with this darn mouse all day!

i have a microsoft intellimouse optical. i bought it around august of 2000, so i haven't had it THAT long. it was running fine until yesterday, when the mouse would all of a sudden just stall in one place and then start up again.

today the optical light on my mouse completely DIED. i freaked immediately soon after and didn't know what to do. i turned my computer off for a few mins, then back on but that didn't help. i checked the mouse to make sure it was still connected and reinstalled the drivers. it still was dead. so i used system restore and restored back to a point where my mouse still worked but its still stalling every now and then.

i'm thinking that my mouse is dying but i wanted to rule out all possibilities. can anyone help? PM or e-mail me (cindyly@ucla.edu)

i called microsoft tech support but the line was busy. i tried their online support and my computer crashed for the third time today. :|

system specs, if you need it
WinME
p3 500 (running rc5 if that's anything)
192mb ram
soyo mb i forgot what kind though...
creative dvd 12x
iomega zip cd 12x10x32
soundblaster live value
voodoo3 3500 tv

and if its related to AOL being SUPER DUPER slow in letting me sign on each nite... lemme know.

yeah, probably a dying mouse.

try that mouse on another computer if possible.

and to rule anything else out, try another mouse on that computer.

or try the mouse on another computer. use your MS warranty if it is dead. they will replace it for you.

If it's the one that's located on the underside....you've got a dead mouse.

Return it under warranty.....

thanks guys. I called up Microsoft and they're sending me a new mouse.
