Problems with lockups in browsers

I have a weird problem, and I really hope someone can help and figure out what it is. When I'm running a browser, after a while, it will lock to the point where I have to reboot.

Since it's my default browser, I'd have the lockups when running Firefox. It will happen when I'm doing anything. For instance, after going to a web site, eventually it will lockup if I try to scroll down, or if I click a link, preview a page for printing, or any other normal browser-type activity. Since I had the "tweak" installed which loaded pages a little faster, I figured I'd uninstall the tweak, but that didn't help. So I uninstalled Firefox completely and reinstalled it - it's the latest version (1.0.3), but this didn't stop the lockups either.

I then decided I'd start using IE (ver. 6.0 with the latest updates), but IE locked up right away. At least with Firefox, a lockup wouldn't occur until after I had run it for a while.

When the browser locks up, I can't close the program or do a CTRL-ALT-DEL to end the program. The lockup causes a complete lock to everything forcing a reboot.

Does anybody have ANY ideas about what's causing this and how to fix it? This driving me up a wall...

Does it do the same in Safe Mode with Networking?
I'm sure this isn't the case seeing as you have a tricked out system but is your computer free of spyware/viruses?
