Problems with Linksys Wireless Router

I just recieved an RMA (warranty) replacement router from Linksys. The previous one stopped working after less than a year. The new one is set up and working (poorly) with my Notebook (wireless), but works fine with my desktop (wired). My wireless connection worked perfectly on the previous router, although it did drop connection when I first set it up but eventually worked itself out.

There are two problems that I cannot resolve with my configuration below. Any input is appreciated.

PROBLEMS:
A. Intermittent wireless disconnections every 5-15 minutes and the connection never reestablishes itself automatically. I can manually reconnect almost immediately after each disconnect.

B. Cannot connect wirelessly using WPA - Pre Shared Key TKIP. I've confirmed that the settings on the client and the router match, but it never connects. I can connect just fine with WEP.

CONFIGURATION:
1. Linksys WRT54G wireless router - have switched between all 11 broadcast channels
2. Windows XP Pro SP1 on both machines
3. ZoneAlarm on both machines
4. Using Wireless Zero config (no available alternative)
5. Cable internet using DHCP
6. File and Print sharing enabled
7. Clean as far as I can tell. No viruses or malicious ware identified by Norton, Ad-Aware SE, or SpyBot S&D
8. No new 'other' interferences (i.e. wireless networks, cordless phones, etc.) as far as I know.
9. WEP 128bit
10. MAC address filtering
11. Had SSID broadcast disabled, but just reenabled it for debugging purposes.
12. Playstation 2 wired to router works fine
13. The following protocols are installed for my wireless NIC, although I don't remember installing all of them:
- Client for Microsoft Networks
- File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
- Internet Protocol
- Deterministic Network Enhancer *
- QoS Packet Schedulear *

* do not remember installing these and don't know if I need them.

I'm inclined to ask for a refund and consider buying a new router from a different manufacturer, but would like to confirm that I've tried every fix first. Also, I'm considering installing SP2 to help resolve the connectivity problem, but I'm very nervous about doing so.

I've posted about these problems in various other posts on these boards but figured I should post them all in one in case they are related.

Flashed the firmware for the router to an older version, per Linksys tech supports advice, but these problems are still happening.

Question - if the replacement router provided by Linksys wasn't in a retail shrink wrapped nice box, then is it likely that they sent me a refurbished / used router? The one that I recieved was in a cardboard box.

Tried disabling Deterministic Network Enahncer (seems to only be needed for my VPN) and QoS Packet Scheduler, but still disconnecting.

I have yet to fix this issue for myself aas well:( Appearantly according to some old speedguide.net posts it was supposed to be fixed in sp2 but I guess not.

Basically, IIRC when Zero configuration detects changes in the signal it will automatically look for a better signal....this ends up disconencting your current connection and it reconnects. The problem is that the fix is basically turning Zero Configuration off after it conencts. My network still disconnects and it will obviously not reconnect since ZC is off and can't do so. Basically i have to leave ZC off.

Perhaps this has something to do with interference in my area or something. I have tried blasting my wrtg54gs to about 70mw and it still happens, usually duing heavy transfers. I was trying to transfer 11-13GB DV tapes over it and I never got even one file accross due to the disconenctions:( .....54Mbps my ass:(
