Problems with Leadtek GF3 Ti200 T

I recently picked up a Leadtek GF3 Ti200 and am experiencing some difficulties. Basically, I can't run 3dmark2001. It crashes to the desktop with an out of memory error and suggests reducing display settings (ran at 1024x768 which I think this card should be able to handle easily). I can play most games but have problems with THPS2. 3d portions run fine but 2d screens don't use the entire monitor screen. When I exit and it returns to a 2d menu screen many times I get a black screen but I can still hear the game music. Also, when I cold boot the system most of the time the monitor's setting leds remain lit and I can't adjust anything with the monitor unless I turn it off and on. This doesn't happen using the same monitor on my other system with a Radeon 8500.

Here are some specs:
detonator version 21.83 (I upgraded to these...with the shipping drivers, v14.62 many times I would get complete system crashes)
4in1s v4.32
Tbird 1.2@1.33 w/ Thermalright SK6 using multiplier not FSB
Epox 8KHA
256mb Crucial 2100 DDR
Maxtor 40gig 5400rpm Hdisk
Guillemot Gamesurround Fortissimo II

Some Bios settings:
AGP 4x enabled
AGP Aperture-64mb
Video BIOS shadow disabled
Video RAM cache disabled
Fast write disabled
Master 1 WS write disabled
Master 1 WS read disabled

Same thing happend to me 5 min ago. I read the cd manual (.pdf) and it says that under the d3d tab, the default 64meg of system mem for textures in PCI mode should be 0 meg setting for AGP cards. I set it to 0 and it wouldn't stay, went back to 64, so I set it at 1, and set the OpenGL to 0 meg (it stayed at 0) per the manual and 3dMark2001 completed. Better game scores than I was seeing before the crash with "out of memory" error. I came here to post a message to see if other people had to do that and what other settings people are using to get best performance. I havn't try any games yet, IL2, here I come.

Ok I have it working now. Turns out I had to tweak some BIOS settings. I guess that's the first thing I should have tried. Anyway here's what I did.

AGP 4x
AGP aperture=256
Video BIOS shadow=disabled
System BIOS shadow=disabled
Video RAM cache=disabled

I also upgraded to the v4.33 4in1s. I'm currently using the Winfast 14.62 display driver and score 4905 in 3dmark2001. I know this is a bit low but at least the card is working now. I'm going to upgrade back to the 21.83 drivers and see if that improves my score.

Any user experiences with this card and how to optimize performance would be appreciated.

Well, I tried switching to the 21.83 drivers again and it caused the same problems I had in the beginning, i.e., crash to multicolored lines across the screen, or flickering screens in 3dmark2001 (followed by being dumped back to the desktop), all that good stuff. I noticed that when I installed the det21.83 the winfast 14.62 driver remains. So, I tried removing the winfast stuff and just installing the 21.83 driver. Still no go. Anyone have any suggestions? This is probably the most hassle I've ever had with a video card. I thought Nvidia cards were supposed to be stable. Never had these kinds of problems with ATi cards.

Did you try the system mem settings to 0 (or 1 in D3D) for faster 3dmark2001 scores? I want to know if I am on the right track with my card.

Sounds like WinFast drivers hosed your system. Other people reported problems with Leaktek own drivers, so it's not just you. Try Detonator Destroyer to remove everything, then install reference Det 22.85 old fashioned way- reboot in VGA mode, and take it from there.

I am very surprised 14.x Detonator actually works with GF3TI, since there is no TI-200 listed in .inf files. WinFast prolly modified them or something..

Thanks for the info Leon. So, where do I get Detonator Destroyer and the version 22.85 drivers?

Alright. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm going to try this tonight. Hopefully I can get the performance and stability up to par on this card.

Well the card is stable now with the winfast garbage uninstalled. I tried v21.xx drivers and all were unstable. Once I tried the 22.80 I obtained stability and performance in 3dmark2001 increased from 4905 to 5246. A nice increase but still not very close to what others are reporting at stock speeds. I would like to find a site to download the new 22.85 drivers. Anyone know where I can get them?

BTW, the 5246 score was obtained without turning vsync off. I'm going to try running 3dmark2001 again and see if this improves the score at all.

Next, I'm going to install some RAM sinks and see how far this baby will go, hehe (once I get the 22.85 drivers that is).
