Problems with large RAM

I just bought two sticks of PC133 512MB of SDRAM. It was nearly dirt cheap, so I sold my old 128 and bought these. But now, when I boot with both sticks installed the screen with the Windows logo, and scrolling blue/white bar across the bottom turns strange colors and my computer freezes. When I take one stick out it still works. It doesn't matter what slot the stick is in on my motherboard, it will always boot with just one stick, so I am assuming its a software problem. I still run Windows 98, cause its quite stable on my system, and all I do is play games, which it is very good at. Any suggestions as to how I can run with my full 1024MB of RAM? Or should I just change my OS?

Thanks

First check to make sure your motherboard can support it. I know my Abit SE6 only supports 512mb. I think its a limitation of the Intel 815 chipset.
