Problems with laptops, please help

I have a Compaq Presario laptop that is supposed to have 64 MB of RAM but it is only showing 55 MB. What could be the problem?

What video chipset is the laptop using? A lot of the time the integrated video will take a chunk out of system memory, leaving you with a lower than "full" figure. Also, DOS real mode drivers, if you have enough of them loaded, will also reduce the amount of RAM Windows "sees".

I don't know what video chipset it is using and I am seeing the 55MB value in both the My Computer properties and in Ram Booster. It used to say 64 MB like its supposed to though.
