Hi, I was trying to help my friend with her lap top, apparently she moved her lap top around and something funky happend to her screen. It split into 3 screens apparently. I am not sure how to explain this and wished I took a "print screen" of her screen but I'm going to try to do my best to explain what it looks like.

It has the normal screen that you should see on an laptop, but then there is this horizontal thin dark bar 3' inches below the top edge of the screen, then when you move the mouse cursor far enough down you can see another opaque mouse cursor and another one 3 inches down more. It is that way with her icons as well. It looks like layers of the same screen except that the layers are opaque and lowered.

She has a Dell Inspiron 8100, nice machine, with a Geforce 2 Go video card and (what looks like to me) a 16 inch LCD display. It is relatively new so I told her to call Dell because I have never seen something like this happen. So, she's on the line with Dell but I was wondering if there was something I could do to fix this?

Comments and Suggestions appreciated.

16 Inches? I didn't know Dell made them that big. But that's besides the point. Somebody posted a while ago with a similar problem (only their dark bar was at the bottom of the screen, with nothing else visible). Then, someone else provided a plausible explanation. If I recall, it was something about the construction of the LCD, and how it requires a light at the base to project perfectly along the height of the screen, illuminating the pixels. Thus, the bar that appeared on that screen was probably caused by a misaligned light. Perhaps this is the same problem? If it is, then Dell will have to take care of it. Good luck.
