problems with LAN

I have a LAN with three computers wired with CAT6 cables to a gigabit D-Link DIR 655 router. The router is wireless, but for the moment I am only using the wired ethernet ports. Each of the computers has a Netgear GA311 gigabit NIC which has the 1000 LED on, and the Netgear menu shows 1000M as well. All machines have excellent internet access. All three are running Windows XP with SP3 installed.

The LAN was set up on each machine using the Windows wizard. To the best I can recall, all were set up exactly the same. On two of the machines -- call them A and B -- if I click on My Network Places a window opens with an upper pane labeled Local Network and a lower pane labeled The Internet. On the third machine -- call it C -- only the Local Network pane appears.

There are several problems. On C only two folders appear in the Local Network pane, although several other folders are being shared on C. All of the folders being shared on C can be seen and accessed on machines A and B. In other words C does not see all of the folders being shared on it -- even though the other two machines can see -- and access --them.

Machines A and B each show the folders they are sharing in the Local Network pane, but show the folders being shared by the other machines in the Internet Pane. I certainly do not wish any of these folders to be shared outside the LAN.

I am at my wits end in trying to figure out what is going on.

Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated

Note added,

I forgot to mention the strangest thing of all. Machine C only shows two of the folders being shared from it, but it is possible to get to all of the stuff shared on the LAN by going to View Workgroup Computers on C and then clicking on the icon for one of the machines. That opens a menu showing the folders and files being shared on that machine, and they are accessible.

Go figure!
