Problems with ISA cards and Soyo 6BA+IV?

Help!

I can't seem to be able to install any ISA cards in the 2 ISA slots on this mobo. Whenever I out a new card in, I get to the part in Windows
when the driver is installed and then I get the BSOD. I have tried the following ISA cards: Lucent LT Winmodem, a generica 16 bit audio, an SB AWE64, none of which gets installed without crashing the Windows.

There is something in the quickstart guide about setting the slots and IRQ's being used to "Legacy/ISA" and I did that. I also have tried to enable PnP OS and have the slots and IRQ's handled automagically.

I went ahead and tried a STB Blackmagic PCI card to make sure that the PCI Slots work.

I am fresh out of ideas, any body have a similar problem?

I am using a 6ba+iv and use an old Adaptec SCSI card (AHA-152x). It is in the ISA slot and I use IRQ11. I marked irq 11 as a legacy slot and also reserved it on upper right of screen. I am not at home so can not give any further details but it works in win98se and XP.

I use it for a scsi scanner and Fujitsu dynamo 600MB MO drive.

I have the 6ba+100 board and use both ISA slots. The one ISA modem I have gave me problems on installing it. I had to disable one of my comm ports in the BIOS to free up an IRQ for the modem. I think that the ISA slots will not share IRQ's with other slots or ports. Try disabling other ports in the BIOS if you are not using them (comm ports, usb, ect.) and then setup your ISA card for that IRQ. Something else to try is to pull all other cards out except video card and start with your ISA cards first. After your ISA cards are setup, then install your PCI cards.

Perhaps the problem is another ISA device causing a problem when the ISA cards that you choose to install are installed.

Disable all ISA devices. This includes the LPT port, the COM ports (I hope you're using a PS/2 mouse!) and the floppy drive.

Could be the ISA to PCI bridge patch. Unfortunately, the only way I can quickly help you remedy the problem is to ask you to format and reinstall. If this doesn't help, then it's just a bad board period.

I think my problem is stemming from old crappy ISA cards and the Highpoint drivers. I will however try your advice and disable all the ISA devices. I AM using a PS2 mouse - I am not THAT old skool!

Also - I have been fiddling with this for so long, I don't have a problem reformatting and reinstalling Win98SE. I may end up doing that anyway!

Shagger, you may want to try this trick before reformatting your drive.

Windows redetect all of the hardware in the system

This works if you are running Windows9x on your system. Just pull all your cards first.

ISA slots can be funky on newer boards. The modem I spoke of above, took awhile to get going. That modem is able to be setup to work in hareware or Plug n'Play mode. When I had that modem in a Abit BX6r2 motherboard, it would only work in Plug n'Play mode for setup and I had to disable a comm port to get that to work. On the Soyo board, I could not get the modem to hook up in Plug n'Play mode like it did in the Abit board. I had to set the modem to hardware mode, set jumpers on the modem for IRQ and addressing. In that case it was not that bad because I just looked up those numbers that Windows gave to comm port 1, disabled comm port 1 in the BIOS and then gave those settings to my modem. It all worked out but did take about 3 hours of messing around trying different stuff before I got it going. Both these boards are Intel BX chipsets but the ISA slots would not setup the same, so the process of setting up ISA devices will change from board make to board make.
