Problems with Internal card reader

I just got an internal Apacer 6-in-1 memory card reader... Hooked it up but it hangs my system for minutes at a time, especially when I open up explorer.. Is this an inherit flaw in memory card readers, a flaw in this brand of reader, a single bad unit, or user error?

Has anyone used one of these before or any other internal memory card reader (mainly interested in SD, CF, and possibly MS)?

I bought one similar to this one from that store (previous model I think), and it hanged one system at boot, and simply didn't work with two others.

I've given up on these and am using parallel on my NT box, and Firewire on my Mac and XP PC. I also have a USB one for a Windows 2000 machine.

That said, every once in a while the USB one and the parallel one will act up and hang the system when I open the Explorer. However, the Firewire one is awesome (Lexar). It works consistently, and is obviously much faster than both USB and parallel. Note though that the USB and parallel ones are PCMCIA adapters. The Firewire one I have only does CompactFlash.
