I bought an IE Expl 3.0 about a year ago, 6 months after i got it the left button broke and Microsoft sent me a new one at no cost to me except it was inconvenient... Then recently my IE Expl has been just cutting out for no reason constantly, tried switching USB ports and even hooked it upto the PS/2 port and same problem, mouse stops responding and the tail light goes out... Already called Microsoft and they are going to send me out another one (looks like they might be backordered) but I was wondering if anyone else had this similiar problem and if so if you pinpointed the short or whatever it may be and were able to fix it, I just bought a Logitech MX500 and I won't use either piece of crap microsoft mouse again but I'd like to be able to fix it and sell it to my roommate, any help?

no clue. i'm using intellimouse explorer 5button grey/lightgrey mouse without a hitch for a long time w/out installing drivers for it (just whatever win2000pro installed it as a pnp 5 button pointing device or something).

My MS Exp. mouse also went out. Same thing...it would just intermittently go on and off. But I called MS and they sent a new one and it's been working fine for several months.

Keep in mind, when the Logitec mouse fails on you (and it will fail, they all do eventually) you'll have to buy another one.

On the other hand, while you may claim some inconvenience, MS warrants their Intellemouse Explorer for life! Call them again and get it replaced. The cost is nothing but your inconvenience.

My original Intellimouse Explorer did that same. I called and got a new one, but, while I waited, I opened it up, cut the cord and re-soldered it back togeter (after taking a few inches off of it). I had done some testing with it (wiggling it around in different places) and found that there was a break in the cord somewhere, so I cut that part off. It works fine now, but I don't use it (I got a free upgrade to the 3.0).
