PLEASE HELP!!! I recently bought a voodoo3 2000 PCI video card, and I can't install it. I have a Amptron Motherboard with a built on AGP (whatever the hell that means). I tried to install it like the manual tells me to, but my monitor won't turn on. The computer boots as normal, but there's no visuals. PLEASE HELP!! Thanks.

I'm guessing that by built on agp you mean the motherboard has integrated video on it. Assuming this, have you gone into the bios and disabled your onboard video?

1) Make absolutely certain that you have completely inserted the graphics card properly.

2) Enter your system's basic input/output system by pressing the DEL key before it starts up..

well actually, just remove the Voodoo3, boot up normally and delete your graphics card from windows and shut down and install the v3 and go :)

What you need to do is disable you onboard APG video. There are a few different ways you may have to go about this. One way is with a jumper. Look through your motherboard documentation and see if it says anything about that. Another possible way is through the bios. Hook the monitor back up to the onboard video and go into your bios. (Probably by pressing the "del" key) and look for something like AGP disable. The third way is the one I have run into the most. Go into your bios and look for something like "PCI/AGP init" or "boot video" etc... and change it to PCI. Now put you V3 back in and you should be all happy.

Burn gave you a pretty good description on how to do it.

After you disable the onboard agp or set the pci to be the initial display adapter be sure to reconnect the monitor cable back to the voodoo3.

Ok, I hit delete when I started up, and this is the menu I got concerning the video card:

-Plug & Play Aware o/s = Yes
-Primary Graphics Adapter = AGP
-PCI VGA Palette Snoop = Enabled
-Assign IRQ for VGA = YES
-DMA Reserved for ISA = n/a
-IRQ Reserved for ISA = n/a
-Reserved Memory Size = Disabled
-Reserved Memory Address = C8000

SO what do I do now? I can change the Primary Graphics adapter to PCI, is that what I'm supposed to do? Thanks guys, ya'll are the greatest. I really know nothing about computers, and I bet it's starting to show....

change Primary Graphics Adapter to PCI. That'll make DOS and everything come up on the v3. It'd be better if you can disable the onboard video, but that may not be possible

And if you've want, run two monitors, it's fun!

On most amptron Motherboards there is a jumper on the board you must set. I would suggest you read the manual that came with the board or go to amptrons site and look at the jumper settings for your board, I suspect that the jumper is right next to the jumper for the sound and modem so be carefull which one you change.
