Problems with installation on new DELL

Am trying to get my nieces new Dell 9300 installed and properly configured for her.

I am have a very frustrating problem with trying to get the McAfee Security Suite software to work on this system. I have just spend about two hours on the phone and remote session with Dell and they could not fix.

The problem is that I download and installed the updates for the McAfee program (3) passes and then I was going to go back in to see if there was anything else that needed to be updated and it will not let me back into the program. Some kind of HTML error (do you want to report this to Microsoft).

I also had a problem with the Quickbooks program that comes on the system in that I registered the product which went fine. Then I downloaded the updates for the program, but when I went back into the program and at the point where it actually applies the updates it went into a never ending loop in the application of the updates.

Can someone tell me if these problems are just me or are these programs, especially the McAfee security suite, a piece of JUNK ? Should I stop trying to beat a dead horse and enable the Windows XP freewall instead and then get Symantec antivirus or some other antivirus software program.

I do not have these type of problems on the custom systems (4) that I have built and personnally configured. However, I am using Win2000 and not XP and I use free Zone Alarm, Windows Antispyware Beta, keep all of Microsoft patches update and do not run any virus software at all (I hardly ever use e-mail and if so on just one system. And I can not remember but one time that I ever had any problems with virus, etc.
