problems with illustrator

My wife created an image in adobe illustrator cs 2 which is 4.7 MB in size. Now she is having trouble opening it again. It is stuck on the progress bar which says "resolving visibility". The machine she is running has Mac OSX, with a 1.25 G4 processor, and 1 GB of DDR 333. It shouldn't be taking hours to open the file. Any input?
