Problems with ICQ2000a and Win2k

Hi there,

For the second time, I installed ICQ2000a (v4.31 build #3143). It goes all ok during the installation. The problem arrises when I run it for the first time. It keeps giving me an GPF and closes. I remember of a ICQ2000a version that ran fine in this machine, but I can't seem to find it. 🙁

Does anyone know what is that? Or, can anyone provide me a pointer to a working version of ICQ2000a with Win2k?

Thanks,

I have had no problems running ICQ 2000a under Win2K Pro.
Im not sure what build it is though. Anyway I can check?

2000a works fine with my win2000 pro install.

you can check your build by going to the icq button, help, and then about. It says right below the top.

Hello all. Thanks for the replies.

I was able to install ICQ2000a just fine once in my Win2k at work. Then, sudenly, it stopped worked giving me a GPF when it finishes loading and then closes.

I just got a new computer and tried installing it and got also got a GPF when trying to fire it up.

You guys that have ICQ2000a running fine under Win2k pro, what specific patches/fixes did you installed? Maybe this is the case.

Thanks,

I did not install any patches/fixes at all. All I did was download ICQ2000a and installed it on Win2k, it worked fine without a problem. I just checked, my ICQ is Build#3143.

This is really weird. I just did the same. Perhaps the only difference was the installation directory, that I set to be C:\Program Files\Internet\ICQ. But this shouldn't hurt.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

I would recommend downloading another Build of ICQ2000a and try the install again. Another possibility would be that some other software is having a conflict with ICQ2000a... Did you install anything before ICQ stopped working? Where did u d/l your ICQ from?

I usually download ICQ from http://www.icq.com/download.

The only thing I remeber I installed before ICQ was drivers (video card, modem, etc) and SecureCRT. That's all.

Do you know where I can get build #3141 or earlier of ICQ2000a?

Thanks,

Unfortunately, all the sites update quite quickly. You will have to search around a bit to find earlier versions. I just checked http://www.download.com and their version is Build#3143. If you want, you can e-mail me and I can send you the file I used to install my ICQ. That way if it still doesn't work we can be sure it's not the file that is the problem, but something with your system.

My e-mail is: bcy-l@home.com

Maybe a re-installation involving deleting every ICQ related key in the registry would help?

P.S. Just check the date on your computer also, in case the year may be set to 2030 or something like that.
