Problems with IBM 560x

I recently got a hold on an old IBM Thinkpad 560x. The old 4GB HD had a few bad sectors and wouldn't format, so I chucked it in favor of a 12GB IBM Travelstar. Since the laptop doesn't have any optical drives nor does it have a floppy drive, I installed Windows 2000 Professional on it using my main laptop as a bed. Now everytime the 560x tries to boot into Windows, it restarts (it restarts after the white progress bar is complete and it should then present the splash screen).

The specs are as followed:
Intel Pentium 233MHz
64MB Ram
12GB HD

I know that Windows 2000 CAN run on as little as 32MB of ram (yes, slower than dirt), and it can run on a Pentium 233 (ran it on a 200Mhz MMX back in the day). Anyone have any solutions? Its my mom's laptop and she doesn't need a screamer, just basic email and word.

Your main laptop and this other laptop have different HALs or different hard drive controllers. One or both of those issues is what is causing the BSODs.

Put the HDD back into your 'bed' laptop. Turn off automatic rebooting. Change the IDE controller, in Device Manager, to PCI Standard IDE Controller. Shut down. Do not boot the laptop again in the bed laptop! Now put it into the IBM laptop, and see if you can boot it up. If you can't, the BSOD will stay on the screen; tell us the error.

I have tried that and when the bed boots into Windows 2000 the first time, it gives me an inaccessable boot sector (or something along those lines) error. I have since tried to reinstall Windows for a second time and before I move it over, I shall try the things that you have said to see if it can work.

I still have the same problem as I did before even after I have done what you said. It just restarts as soon as it loads the splash screen. Is there a way to install it via floppy (i.e. make floppy disks for it)

Sorry, but what have you done? If the HAL is the same, you'll need to do a repair install. The IDE suggestion is only if the HALs aren't different.

What is the exact error the box gets when you try to boot it up?

Again:

I did do what you stated, but it doesn't present an error, it just flashes the screen and then restarts. THen the same thing happens all over again., reguardless of what mode i boot in (normal or safe).

You need to turn off automatic restarts while it's plugged into your old laptop. Do that, then change the IDE controller to "PCI Standard IDE", then put it into the new/IBM laptop, and let us know what the error message is.

I have said that I have already done that, and the problem is still the same.

Send me a dump file or two, found in c:\windows\minidumps.

If you turned off automatic restarts, it should hang at a bluescreen when it crashes, so I'm a bit uncertain why it would reboot after crashing.

Put the hard drive in your laptop. Partition and then do a format c: /s (c: being whatever drive letter is assigned). Then copy the contents of the CD to the hard drive. You will now be able to put the drive back in the old laptop, boot to a dos prompt, and install windows from the hard drive.

Yep.

Again, if you turned off automatic restart, it shouldn't restart anymore. You are sure you turned it off?

OK. Waiting for dump files... If you could run MPSReports (and send me the resulting computername.cab file) that would be useful too. I suspect you've got a HAL mismatch, so you'll need to do a repair install.
