Problems with HP wireless keyboard and mouse.

I just got the HP x4000 wireless mouse and the HP Wireless Keyboard Elite V2 for my new desk. I can't get both working well together. Their performance comes and goes when they're used together. I plugged back in my old mouse and the wireless keyboard is great. I even moved the dongles apart, on in the front of the PC and one in the rear. Anything I should try. I thought of batteries but that seems like it wouldn't be it. I also thought of drivers but I really couldn't find any. Any ideas?

I think its just the poor reception of both devices. I seem to have pretty good luck with the keyboard, occasionally it seems to lose reception a bit. The mouse is crap, it says it has a 30ft range but its only like 4 feet from the dongle, if I move it closer it actually works. I may return the keyboard and get a combo. I can't return the mouse as I got it off Ebay NIB. I'll also try some new batteries fresh from the pack, I tried some extra batteries I had laying around but I'm not so sure how old they are.
