Problems with HORRIBLE audio in Winamp3 (and Winamp3 only...)

OMG I just noticed this today!!! I unplugged my ACS-48s and hooked up my SR60s to do some listening. Just a few days ago I nuked Winamp 2.8x and installed Winamp3 (no I did NOT pay any attention to all the warnings posted here and elsewhere.) Well here's the deal...ALL my MP3s have a horrible hiss in them. What's worse, the hiss is "constant" no matter what volume I pick (i.e. if I increase the volume in Winamp (either through 'wave' or 'master') the hiss is always the same loudness! Windows media player does not have this problem, and I KNOW that it was never there with Winamp2. Has anyone else noticed this? What am I doing wrong?

I think I've heard of this problem before, but havn't heard a cure.

I think that WA3 has a long way to go before surpassing the greatness of WA2.8

w00t I solved the problem! My output was set to "SB Audigy [D0 (WWWrapped) (Emulated)]". I had been using a wrapper in order to enable 24bit processing on my Audigy (for use with MAD's 24bit output plugin.) Apparently this setup is very BAD for Winamp3. Not to mention useless since I have yet to find MAD for Winamp3. So I set it back to "Primary Sound Driver" and the hiss is gone.

Dude, WA3 is a bloated piece of crap. I installed WA3, used it for 5 minutes and then reinstalled WA2.8. I am not trying to thread crap but its just WA3 sucks, though on another note, I did not have the problem you are having.

would everyone stop complaining about Winamp 3! Everyone is a fanboy of some sort here. Winamp 3 does install a stupid amount of AOL shortcuts, but how long do those take to delete? How hard is it to close the video player, or set your other media (pron) watching programs back to the default viewer?

For WinXP users, Winamp3 is a large leap in quality from Winamp 2.8...no more skipping on Creative Labs' cards alone is worth the upgrade.
