Problems with heat on Duron 750+Asus A7V133a

now i got the Mb and the chip together and it came with a generic heatsing/fan . i had ordered a Swiftech Mc-370A but they were takin forever so i decided wtf ill try the generic for now cause i cant wait. it didnt short it or anything, Bios reads about 53c and in win98 reads around 55 and underload (quake3 demo) about 57 afterwards

but i got the swiftech (huge compared to the generic) and put it on, using the reg spread that came with it, i put it on with a bit much, let it warm up, took it off, wiped off the stuff on the heatsink so it wouldnt have to much for better contact.
problem is its running at 54c right now with the case closed. i have a front intake fan, a fan that is horizontal in the case to draw air up and a 60mm top back to draw out, and a 30mm (i think) in the back neer the usb ports.

so why dont i see a commparable diffrence? iv wanted to OC it forever but not untill i can get lower temps.

Are you using any thermal compounds?
And the 53C reading was with the case opened?
And whats the room temp?
If you are not using any thermal compound, try to put some Arctic Silver II or something. The ASII will make a little bit better.

I'd lap that thing and get some AS2. AS2 gives u much more control when applying thermal grease and on a properly lapped HS you only need a translucent haze to get the job done. Run a search on lapping and you should find some good "how to" guides. Its a very cheap way to improve your HSF performance. Sounds like you got too much goop on there and its inhibiting heat flow. You should see a big decrease in temps with a HSF like that. My SVC Golden Gate dropped my temps 10C from my Volcano2 before I lapped. Dropped another 5C after I lapped. I'm running 10C cooler at OC'ed speeds and I'd run about 15-18C cooler if I were still running at 1.4 gigs.
