I own two identical Gigabyte GTX 460 1GB OC (715Mhz core) cards, each in a desktop rig, specs in sig.

Anyways, I decided to hook one of them up using HDMI, so that I could take advantage of the speakers in my KDS 26" LCD monitor.

It seemed to work, initially, but a few days ago, when I got up in the morning, and moved the mouse to wake it up, the monitor light glowed blue (which means it's waking up), but the screen remained black. I pushed (not held) the power button, and Win7 shut down normally. I got a splash of color right near the end, and then I turned it back on, got the BIOS screen, but then after the windows loading screen, it went black, and didn't come back on again, until I started to pull my PC out of the cubby-hole in the desk that it is in.

Well, I though that it was a bad connection, so I pulled the PC back out, and plugged it in firmly. I thought that was the end of it.

Well, just now, browsing forums, the monitor blacked out for a split-second, and then came back on.

I'm not sure what's going on here. I think that it's more than a coincedence that this started happening as soon as I changed over from DVI to HDMI, so I don't think that the monitor is failing. I am wondering about the GTX460's HDMI port though.

I'm using an adapter supplied with the card, with a regular HDMI cable plugged into it.

Edit: Damn, it just did it again. I'm going to switch back to DVI and see if it still blacks out.

Mini-HDMI sucks for connections, especially with an adapter plugged in.

While it's not a solution, since your monitor has speakers it also might have a 3.5mm line-in jack you could use for audio if the DVI port otherwise solves the problem. You really aren't going to be able to tell the difference between audio sources/formats with built-in monitor speakers anyway.

Edit: The Newegg pics on your monitor show a 3.5mm jack. Also, you could buy a mini-HDMI-to-HDMI cable to bypass the adapter if that is a problem.

I believe it has to do with the adapters that came with the cards. Does yours actually fit into the mini-HDMI slot, or does it hit the edge of your case? Mine hit the edge, and I had a real hard time getting a solid connection with it. I ordered a 6ft mini-HDMI to HDMI cable from monoprice and it solved my problem. Some people say you can try shaving the plastic from the adapter, but I think its just easier to switch out the adapter for a cable.

I had this issue with my 460(s) as well using the provided adaptor. I purchased a mini HDMI to full size HDMI cable so i didnt need an adaptor and the issue went away.

Yeah, I was planning on doing that, when I get some money.
