hi all-
I just finished with the build of the Gigabyte GA-8INXP system, but I have a few problems:

The hard drive activity led on the case is staying lit up from the time I turn the system on. No flickering, just staying constantly lit up. I tried switching the connector around where it attaches to the mobo, but when I reversed it I got no light at all. The hard drive (new WD 120GB se) is detected during boot on the Promise bios screen (although it reports it as 111GB? is that correct?)
the way I have things setup is Toshiba dvd on ide 1, Sony cdr on ide 2, and the WD on ide 3/ Promise ata.

The other problem is that the Toshiba dvd and the Sony cdr are not being detected during boot. On the screen where it shows ide 1 and 2 it shows devices=none. Any idea what the problem might be with either case??
Thanks

Check in your bios if the IDE1 and IDE2 are enabled and set to auto.
If so, you may have a bad IDE controller and will need to return/exchange the mobo.

i switched the cables around so that the hard drive is on ide1, the cdr is on ide 2, and the dvd is on ide 3/promise ata. the hard drive and cdr are seen on ide 1 and 2 but the dvd is not on ide 3/promise.?

My questions are:
if you only have one hard drive do you have to have it on ide 1? i had it on ide 3/promise ata and it was seen, but when i switch the dvd to ide 3, that's not seen. i thought the ide 3 and 4/ Promise controller when set to ata and not raid gave you two additional ide ports so you could have 4 ide devices all set as master. Is this not the case?

I rechecked the connection of the hard drive led wire to the mobo and it is correct. It has an orange and white wire with the white being the ground and I have it placed correctly but the led on the case is still staying lit. could this be a short on the motherboard?
This is the same lian li case that I have used for a while and I didn't have this problem before so I'm guessing that there is a problem with the pins on the motherboard? How can I test this to find out? All the other led's and wire a functioning correctly

IDE 3 and IDE 4 do not support ATAPI devices. In other words, you cannot have the DVD on IDE3.

Install all the drivers on your HD. When you are done, move it to IDE3, your CD to IDE 1 and your DVD to IDE2 and you will be set.

Make sure you change the boot order to SCSI first.

PClark99-
Looks like we have similar systems:
P4 2.66/ 8INXP/ crucial 9700 pro/ Corsair twinx pc3200LL 2x256/ WD 120GB se

Is you're hard drive LED indicator working on your rig? I can't get mine to function properly, it just stays on constantly. Where do you have your's connected? Does it have an orange and white wire? Any thoughts on what this could be? A short of some kind? Should I be concerned?

Yeah they are quite similar.

I don't have that problem with the HDD light.

Try asusboards.com forums, there are alot of people over there that can help.

It could be a short, try reversing the plug. If that doesn't work use the power light and plug it into the HDD connector on the mobo. Try to narrow it down.

try putting your WD (remove the jumper/no jumper) in IDE1 and the Toshiba and Sony as master & slave in IDE2..forget about using your RAID/SATA..Let us know if it works..
Why do you want to put your optical drives both as masters in IDE1&2..??? For on- the-fly burning??

oh by the way check your ide cable...:)
