Problems with FIOS...

Trying to find out if I'm alone in this boat...

I ordered FIOS (internet + tv) on December 18. Initially scheduled to install on Jan 8 or so. Two days prior, have a message on the machine, sorry we can't do it then.

Call them back up, after half an hour switching between people, rescheduled to the 17th (last Wednesday) from 1 - 5pm. Took a day off of work, stayed home. At 3:30 I start wondering and I call them up, another half hour with a guy who should probably not be allowed to operate motor vehicles, and I find out they rescheduled it for the 31st... without bothering to call me.

Much anger ensues. Guy assures me someone will call me back within a day to discuss the problem. I end up having to call them three days later. End result... now scheduled for February.

I'm a little wary about going through with this. Does anyone else find the Verizon Fios people to be totally incompetent?

i'd sue them for fraud, but that's just me.

definitely not worth my time to pursue that, but if this is how they are just getting to your house for an install, may god have mercy on me if I ever have a service problem.

Just schedule them to come on some day and then dont take the day off. When there's a tech sitting at your house say, "Oh, I rescheduled that for another day."

I don't know what's worse.. getting the run-around or not being able to order it at all yet (me). I've heard plenty of good stories but mostly after they guys get there.

link - others who may share stories.

Never had a problem with my 2 installs of FIOS (Internet and then TV). They came on the day and in the window that they stated they would.

When I got my FIOS setup the installer dude got called away to the local mall to fix something. He came back to finish my install and wasn't done until after 8pm.

Set our internet up just fine. TV stuff was just a matter of giving us the set top boxes and doing something to our FIOS box outside/in the garage.

Thanks for the link. I see I'm not alone after browsing the forums there a few minutes.

They installed my service on Dec 31 so i would get the old prices and the only problem during install was having a verizon person reset my DVR box because some of the channels didn't come thru the first time.

My house was already setup for FIOS from previous owner.

I got the installation runaround too. Internet and TV was finally installed 5 weeks after the first scheduled date. However, I got the first month free for both services as the result. I said I need some compensation for taking off from work waiting for nobody.

This is why the only thing i have from verizon is my cell phone which is strangely competent. everything is gone and thank goodness. talk about being nickled and dimed to death, and then taxed on top of it. This is NYC though, don't know where you are. I would assume it's different based on location.

Installer arrived the exact day they said they would at 8AM. Stayed all day and even called for an extra guy to come in and help with the installation when he realized he had to run new cable to every room. Very polite, professional, and hard working.
