Problems with Final Fantasy X

My PS2 stops responding whenever I reach the bar in luca. Is this a known bug (solution?) or is my dvd simply screwed?

thanks

My first guess is that your DVD is screwed. Is there any damage to it? Dust or filth? My X disc had a hair scratch on it that prevented me from getting past the video of Yuna performing the sending in the second town. (Not my first time through, mind you.) I had to Disc Dr it time and time again before it would get past that point (scipping and glitching), then it got stuck shortly after in the video where they first arrive at Luca. If the disc is in good condition, the laser might need cleaning. As far as I know, there's no bug or glitch that causes the game to freeze.

Thanks for replying, Aftermath

My dvd has a couple of scratches. My ps2 is about a month old so that should not be a problem. The funny thing is that the game gets stucks during the video in Luca.

sounds like a bad disk or bad laser, see if one of thoes DVD cleaner things will make it go past, also blow some air into the PS2 to loosen up any dirt

An easy way to determine which piece is malfunctioning is to try it on a friend's PS2... or if you have no friends with one, take it to a game shop that lets you play games before you buy them and see if they will help you out. In my experience, most of the people that work at game stores like this are pretty cool and if they aren't busy they will let you give it a whirl. But of course, be waiting for a sales pitch on a new copy or a disc repair service if it doesn't work (which might not be a bad idea)
