Problems with Evga 7800gt

Ok, I recently just built my first computer and I am having a bit of difficulty. My monitor is not responding to the video card. I have no idea why as I am almost positive I have everything hooked up right.

I have a spare motherboard that has integrated graphics, so I tried that one out to see if it works and I get the same problem. I know it isn't the monitor as I could plug the monitor directly into the spare motherboard and it works fine. The 7800gt powers on fine and the fan starts blowing when I turn the computer on, but no reaction from the monitor. One thing that may be an issue (not really sure) is that the monitor doesn't have a DVI plug, but I just plugged it into the adapter that came with the video card. Also, I get the 1 short beep that I am supposed to get on startup. But the monitor just stays blank.

When I use the mobo with onboard video and load windows, I can't load the Nvidia drivers. It says that there is no compatible hardware found for those drivers. I don't know if that would happen because the monitor is not plugged into the actual card or if something else is screwed up. I do have the 4 pin connector connected to the video card coming from the PSU. This video card worked fine for me before. I pulled it from a working system. I suppose it may have died, but that just seems unlikely.

Any ideas of what I could try?

Hi,
You really need to provide all your hardware specs, inc,
mobo
cpu
psu
ram
sound
nic
etc etc

As a shot in the dark, if you disconnect all your drives and take out all your pci cards - what happens?
Are you using usb kb/mouse?
What happens when you take them out and boot?

Ok, here is a quick run through of the specs:

CPU: Athlon 64 3700+
MB: Evga nForce 4 SLI edition
GPU: Evga 7800gt
Ram: 1 gb (2x512) Inferion and 1 gb (2x512) corsair value select
PSU: Antec 400w
Sound: Audigy SB 4
HD: Seagate 200gb Sata
Drives: Generic DVDRW

I have tried running the system without any drives or the SB (only other card installed) and the computer still doesn't detect the 7800. I just don't get it. Initially I was thinking the adapter for the DVI connector might be bad, but that wouldn't explain why windows isn't even detecting the card. I would think that the card would still be detected even if I couldn't get the monitor to respond.

I am beginning to think I may need to RMA the card (some advice from other boards), but I could be wrong. I would hate to do that and then find out that it isn't the card.
