i took a dvd drive from my friends computer and put it into mine

it worked fine before but in my comptuer it is having extreme difficulty reading cds...i'll put a cd in and it'll never show up in my computer and if i click on the E drive it says please insert cd

it seems to only work if the cd is in the comptuer already when i start the computer

does anyone know how i can fix this?>

What OS are you using? Which DVD drive is it? If Windows 2000 or above, try setting it in PIO mode. Hope this helps.

Agreed ojai00, stryder2929, we need more info to help you out. Have you tried a different IDE cable? Just a thought.

well it is on the same ide cable as my cdrw (and yes the dvd is set to slave cause the other is a master) which works fine

i have winxp pro, what is pio mode, how would i set it to that? i think it is an I/O magic drive (8x) but dont hold me to that
