Problems with CD rom! PLEASE HELP

So I've had these CD rom drives for about a year or so. One is a NEC DVD 3540 burner and the other is a misumi one. I've always had trouble getting these drives to work at the same time. Right now my main problem is that I can't get either drives to work. My computer detects it and says that it is working properly but it can't read a cd or doesn't even know if a cd is in there. Anyone, PLEASE help me figure this out, it is driving me nuts. If you need more info, let me know. thanks!

In order to make any sort of analysis on this problem, we need to know how these drives are connected and set up.

Right now im trying to get just one drive to work. So I just have my dvd rom set up as a primary master. My set up is I have an AMD 64 3000, Oc'd, 1 gb ram, DFI lanparty Mobo. I really don't know why i always have problems with cd roms. Could they be broken? anyways, please help. Thanks!

Alright, iI uninstalled the nvidia IDE driver. Afterwards windows reinstalled the drive and told me I had to restart my computer and I did. But the problem still persists. I been googlding this and i guess it is caused by installing burning software. the software i have is nero, other programs that could affect the drives is daemon tools and poweriso. Any more ideas?
