Problems with bass

As the title implies, i am having bass troubles. Basically, one night it worked fine, next morning it was making a horrible humming sound...all the bass was suddenly going though my woofer. I would quite simply like to know how this happened and how to fix it. Any input is appreciated!

What speakers to you have?

Well... for a set with satellites and a subwoofer, it should be that bass is coming out the sub (does "woofer" = subwoofer?) and higher frequency material should be coming out the satellite speakers.

So there's humming coming out the subwoofer all the time?
Does it stay constant or change with the volume as you turn it up and down?
Does it still make the humming when you don't have it connected to anything for the input?
