problems with ata 100 and Win2k

I just finished a clean install of Win98 and Win2k dual boot system. I
put the two OS's on seperate partitions and added the SP2 to Win2k.
When I run SANDRA te in 98 I get 24000+ on the drive bench and HDtach
gets 74mps read burst speed with a random access average of 7.3ms and
less than 10% CPU utilization. When I run the same in Win2k I get 13700
with SANDRA and HDtach gives me about 41.5 read burst speed with a
random access average of 13.2ms and more than 37% CPU utilization. What
the HELL is the problem with Win2K? What do I need to do to resolve
this. I've been jacking around with drivers and bios for days. Any
suggestion would be cool. Thanks.

HOw's the feel of the real time peformance from day to day windows navigation? Is it smooth, snappy? responsive? Still responsive under a heavy load? If yes to all these questions, then I would have to say leave those results be. I wouldn't pay attention to them. If things rather snappy according to your eyes in realtime then the benchmarks could be negated.
