Problems with AiW 9800 install...

Ok, well I got my new AiW 9800 last night and installed it today. I previously had a Nvidia GeForce in the system. I uninstalled Nvidia's drivers, rebooted to safe mode, and then used Driver Cleaner to remove all the info in the registry. Everything seemed to go fine. I then powered down and removed the GeForce and then installed the AiW 9800. System booted up and I proceeded to install the drivers and software for the new video card. Again, everything seemed to go fine. I ran 3Dmark2003 as well as played a few games, and it is pretty sweet especially compaired to what I had.

Anyway, the problem is the TV tuner does not seem to work, or at least I can't seem to get it to work. This is the first AiW I have installed so it could very well be that I am doing something wrong. I installed the tv-capture-wdm 6.14.10.6201v1 as well as the catalyst 3.5 drivers. Whenever I click on the "TV" icon in the WMD it brings up the splash screen and then pops up a error box "Unable to start TV: The TV player failed to initialize the video. Check the device manager to ensure that the correct video driver has been installed and is working properly before attempting to restart TV. PC Check may help diagnose this problem." Well, I checked the device manager and everything is installed and working properly. I also ran PC Check and no problems are reported there (not anymore, one of my DVD-/+R/RW did not have DMA enabled, but it does now). I looked on ATI's website, but was not able to find any more information other then just a README with the tv-capture drivers that said to basically check the device manager and fix any problems reported in there, but like I said, there are no problems reported in there...

Anyone here get an AiW working properly, or can anyone walk me through the proper way of installing an AiW? Thanks in advance.

P.S. The Remote Wonder also does not seem to be responding. The "test" when in the configuration where you can specify an ID for the remote does not detect that I hit the power button on the remote. Not sure if this is part of the problem or just another issue entirely.

You installed DAO/MDAC Component Package, Windows Media Encoder 9 and DX9(a) also? They're all required also.

Yeah... I installed them as well. I'm right now working on doing a format/re-install of windows. Just trying to backup/move stuff off my primary OS partition (and find all my software CD's...)

Well, no luck even with a complete re-install of the OS.... anyone else have an idea? I got the remote wonder working though this time, but still no TV capture/playback. I am also getting a warning now about my audio card clock sync being beyond the .2% range, don't know why, as I even installed the origional drivers and then tried it with the updated drivers (its an Audigy 2 Platinum EX).

So anyone else have an idea of what it might be? I would be nice if the program at least gave some real error messages and not a generic "It didn't work...something is wrong somewhere" type message...

I figured it out :) It turns out it was some of the additional features I had installed with my OS. I run Win2000 Advanced Server, and I had the terminal services installed (lets you do remote desktop access). Finally found a similar problem listed on ATI's website with video capture not working with terminal services installed. Once I uninstalled that, I was good to go (well sort of, I need to hit Radio Shack and pick up a few choice pieces of hardware, like a quality 3 way cable splitter, a quality stereo extention cable, and a decent 1/8 inch to 1/4 inch stereo adaptor). Well, I might not need some of that stuff, but I know for a fact I need the 3 way splitter, hopefully a gold plated one as I use a cable modem and need it to still be able to recieve the signal through the splitter. The other stuff might not be needed if I can figure out if any of the 3 additional ports on the back of a Audigy 2 Platinum Ex is a line-in, otherwise I need to connect it through the external box which uses 1/4 inch inputs on the line-in's expecting studio grade equipment to be connected through them.

Edit:
Well found out that the other 3 ports on the back of the Audigy are line outs for speakers, so I need the other hardware I listed above to connect the sound. But :p I managed to find EXACTLY what I needed in my bin of cables, its a female stereo 1/8 plug on one end and a male 1/4 inch plug on the other :) no need for two parts that could cause additional signal distortion/degradation. Man I am glad I messed around with audio eq back when I was in a garage band :)
