Problems with AIM Taking up too much system resources

Nab

Senior member
Sometimes AIM decides to take up 90-100% of system resources and I can't do anything! I can't run any programs, play games, listen to music, etc. Is there anyway to fix this problem?
I'm running:

Win XP
1.6c @ 2.1ghz
512ram

need any other information?

Thanks for your help.

have you checked of viruses?

it could be a virus that is doing that...you could also try uninstalling AIM and reinstlling it.

Definately check for viruses. My AIM is running now and is taking up 0-1% of the cpu. So 90-100% is not good at all.

hmm.....i'm going to try uninstalling and then reinstalling.......

the problems fixes itself if i exit/re-enter, but then eventually takes over my computer again...

uninstalling........

edit: downloading/installing................

I'm going out to eat dinner...i'm going to run AVG Virus Scan and Norton Corporate Edition Scans concurrently....

Yeah get rid of it. On a lighter note, check to see if you have any spyware lurking around, and make sure you don't have a bunch of crap such as aim today running. I use aimmutation. It works fine for me and it can take out the adds if you want. Dunno if it will help, but worth a try I guess?
