Problems with ADSL

I have a pretty old Netgear modem that I have been using. It works well while it does but sometimes, it shows everything as connected but I can not access anything online; can not even ping the ISP IPs. I've tried 5-6 different modems but each gives its own sets of problems and I'm sick of it. I've tried USR and Netgear and the rest were cheap Chinese brands. Now I was thinking of buying a commercial grade modem. Any suggestions? Whatever I get will eventually be cheaper than replacing modems every 2 months.

It is hard to believe that it is a Modem problem if you tried few Modems.

As a first step you should talk to your ISP.

Yep it has to be a wiring problem or ISP problem. Only other problem could the the DSL filters you have to use for your phones. If one of them has gone bad, it's possible it may cause problems.

2 modems just stopped to working all of a sudden and it was working fine on them until they died. (can't access them). 1 just keeps restarting every 5 mins and one won't reset (I've lost the password and it won't reset to factory settings for some reason). I wouldn't bother calling them. They promise to return phone calls within 24 hours but they never do. I think I'll have to change ISPs soon. What I'm waiting for is WiMax to arrive in a couple of months. ADSL is useless with phone lines going bad every time there is heavy rain here in Karachi. I want to stay with ADSL though - it would have better latencies right?
