Problems with Abit KT7A (old one, not 1.3) and Conexant modem...

Ok, i just lent my old computer to my girlfriend for the summer, it's listed here. Now here's the question... the modem, i have no idea what it is, i just know it came with her old computer, some crappy HP celery... it says it's a conexant modem on the drivers disk, but it doesn't install when i try to use it.. lovely XP... anyways... it does work, but the problem that i'm having is that it makes this WEIRD like screeching sound when it goes online... i've never used a modem in that computer, always my NIC, so no clue wut the problem could be... any ideas?

That's the way it's suppose to be. You should hear that sound when it is going to connect

umm.. not the modem noise... ok, imagine there's a cat... no imagine that cat is going through heat... now imagine that cat getting thrown out the 30th floor window, now imagine that cat gettin hit by a car while falling... now imagine that sound constant... a screeching sound... ok? not the speakerfone... not the modem connecting sound... this is NOT a normal sound...
