Why are people buying 2x 6600GTs for SLi? It makes no fscking sense!

Simple, because some people don't have $1,000 to throw at video cards. Doesn't take a genius to figure that out. ;)

Well, tell all those geniuses buying nForce 4 Ultra that one 6800GT OCed is going to get them better performance for about the same or (much) less at resolutions these boards are designed to run at. With less heat in the case. With less power consumed, with better stability.

Unless you?re pussy-foot'n around @ 1280X1024 or less and/or with no AA or AF on (and in that case, why the hell did you buy two grafix cards?) there is no reason to have dual 6600GTs.

Again, it makes no fscking sense. But it does take a genius to understand it. It is called taking advantage of stupidity. Intel has it down real good with their Mhz shenanigans. Look how many people they are fooling. nVidia did a good one here, halfwits buying a $250+ board MADE TO PREFORM IN HIGH END AREAS where one has 1600x1200 + resolutions and max AF and AA. And people are buying midrange cards for it that DO NOT PREFORM AS WELL AS A SINGLE HIGH END CARD AT THE QUALITY LEVELS THE BOARD WAS DESIGNED FOR. So they make money on people buying two 6600Gts with at BEST little performance gain when the settings are LOW compared to a single 6800GT OCed, then when these people decide to upgrade (sooner, mind you) nvidia make more of a profit, faster.

Haray for ignorance!

""The GeForce 6600GT seemed to scale reasonably well, with a pair of 6600GTs outperforming a single 6800 Ultra in Doom 3 and Half Life 2 {EDIT: At lower quality setting; settings SLi was not designed to run at}. It doesn?t make too much sense to buy a pair of 6600GTs today however, as you?d be much better off getting a single 6800GT and upgrading to a second one down the road, which brings us to our next point, the upgrade value of SLI. Yes, when someone points out bad choices though information and logic, they are then arrogant to you? I see. I'm sure youll be happy with your 6600GTs lol ;)

There may abe one solution. First, you will need at least a 400W power supply. Bigger is better, though. Next, the motherboard has a 24 pin connector... If you're power supply has a 20 pin connector, then you MUST buy a converter (for $4.00). Apparently, the SLI needs the extra power from those 4 pins.

Once again complete closed minded whining by someone who thinks he knows it all....

Try using your so called logic and arguing the points FOR having 2x6600GT's...

1) # of monitor support
2) the amount of heat produced by 2 6600GT's in some cases is even better than 1 6800GT and at least for me provides for better clearance issues since the 6800GT's are bigger.
3) SLI is in birth stage. If it gets optimized and better down the road these could possibly match 6800GT's in single form no problem.
4) How much is a PCI-E 6800GT or Ultra now? I got my 6600GT for $160, and so did FastEddie. Factor in availability and supply and demand and 2x6600GT's looks rather enticing.

5) there's this...

with a pair of 6600GTs outperforming a single 6800 Ultra in Doom 3 and Half Life 2.

Given that's without AA and AF. $320 vs. how much for a PCI-E Ultra? It's still cheaper than a single 6800GT PCI-E.

Take your thread bashing BS elsewhere you rambling autistic savant...
