Problems with a VAIO Laptop

I have been having problems running my Vaio. It will restart on its own after I have been running windows for a while, also it will usually give me the hard disk check scan when I start up windows. The battery is also fully charged but when I unplug it from the wall the battery says low even though its fully charged and the computer will shut down.

Windows XP Home
Duron 550mhz
128mg RAM

How old is the battery. Sounds like the battery has lost its life. And since your not getting power the computer is shutting down.

Does it shut down while plugged in to the wall? If its not then its not overheating.

I charged the battery to full and unpluigged it. The battery said 79% about 5min later and about 20 min later now it says only 18% left. Ok now it just shut off and wotn turn back on. So do I just need a new battery? Could the hard disk scan be a result of low power?

Could the hard disk scan be a result of low power?

Depending on what it is set to do at before power off, yes. If it goes into hibernate before the battery dies no.

Someone may have you confused into thinking this is a batery issue when it may not be. Your battery definately need replacing but did the laptop restart when it was plugged in?
